QUE : Discuss the ethical challenges associated with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and discuss what steps can be taken to address them.

March 10, 2026

Artificial intelligence: This is the ability of a computer or a robot controlled by it to perform tasks that are usually performed by humans because they require human intelligence and understanding. However, no artificial intelligence has been developed yet that can perform all the tasks performed by humans, but can be equal to humans in some tasks.

This technology, which is being discussed in the computer world, has the characteristic of analyzing the possibilities available to achieve a given target task and giving almost accurate results. It is a part of machine learning, which is a data-based mathematical process that analyzes data through algorithms and makes decisions.

  • Ethical challenges
  •  Unemployment: Most of the working class is concerned with automation. Robotics and AI make it possible to create machines that can eliminate the need for low-wage laborers. Apart from this, jobs in many sectors like cashiers, field staff, accountants, managers, farm laborers can be taken away.
  •  Increase in inequality: By using artificial intelligence, large companies can reduce their labor force and increase their income. As a result, companies with such technologies will get all the profits and dominate the market. Displacement in investment will increase inequality between different countries and even within the country.
  •  Technology addiction: Human dependence on technology can increase which can reduce human capabilities. At present, if used properly, it can be useful for humanity, otherwise disastrous results can be possible.
  •  Promotion of discrimination: Artificial intelligence has been developed by humans. Which can show discriminatory attitudes. Surveillance technology can influence people’s color and race-based discrimination.
  •  Human vs. Human: Artificial intelligence is created by humans, but if in the future this same technology works to destroy humans, it can become a threat to humans.
  •  Threat to privacy: There have been many cases of fraud with the help of deep fake technology using public data of people and it can increase exponentially. Apart from this, it can also pose a threat to financial privacy and our financial system.
  • Regulatory measures:
  •  Adopt the ethical recommendations on artificial intelligence given by UNESCO
  •  Develop an appropriate regulatory mechanism for the use of technologies like deep fake
  •  A framework should be developed for the use of artificial intelligence that ensures personal data, intellectual property rights, privacy, security and encourages innovation that uses artificial intelligence for reliable, sustainable, responsible and human-centered use.
  • Establish a regulatory body at the local level that can identify the risks associated with artificial intelligence in India and empower the relevant institutions to control it
  •  For a developing country like India, the pace of development can be increased by using artificial intelligence in many sectors such as health, education, public services, agriculture. But it becomes necessary to provide a suitable regulatory framework and necessary education and training for proper use and ethical challenges associated with it.
