QUE. Does accountability always lead to better and more efficient governance?

June 28, 2026

Accountability is defined as the responsibility to perform or complete an assigned task. Accountability refers to one’s duty to complete a task.

  • Level of awareness of accountability:
  • Knowing responsibility and fulfilling it are two different things. If a person implements it completely, good governance can be achieved.
  • Due to the consciousness of excessive responsibility of a person, he shows haste and irritability in delegating work to lower level employees so that the combined product is not complete.
  • Excessive responsibility can also lead a person to commit other vices.
  • For example, Hitler’s initiation of World War II to take responsibility for making Germany the best.
  • Essentials for efficient and good governance:
  • Along with responsibility, precision, accuracy in work, coordination with time, ability to get work done with employees, tolerance to mental stress, etc. are also very important factors for governance.
  • Without any of these qualities, a completely good or efficient governance cannot be achieved.
  • For example: A person may be made responsible for providing birth certificates. But if his computer skills are poor, 100% efficiency may not be achieved.
  • Dat: For good governance of the country, the Parliament, the Executive, the Judiciary, along with individual responsibility, are also important.
  • If the judiciary does not have confidence in the laws of Parliament, if the government is not serious about the decisions of the judiciary, or if the Parliament ignores the guidelines of the judiciary, then a fully competent government will not be achieved.

Thus, accountability is an important moral value to ensure efficiency in governance, but the burden of excessive accountability can cause disinterest or resentment among the employees in governance.
