QUE: Give information about 5G technology and explain its features, advantages and challenges.

April 14, 2026

5G technology is a next-generation wireless cellular technology that provides very fast and reliable communication with low latency. It can contribute to strong governance and advanced economic development in India.

5G facilities have been launched in some cities in India recently.

  • 5G Technology

→ 5G technology is the latest update in Long term evolution (LTE) mobile broadband network. The highest speed of data network in 5G technology is 2-20 gigabits per second. 5G technology is a technology that can digitally connect objects, machines and devices to each other. It is more capable, faster and more efficient than the previous generation technology with low latency.

→ 5G technology mainly operates in three bands.

  • Low-frequency
  • Medium-frequency
  • High-frequency
  • Key features of 5G technology

→ 5G technology provides faster mobile speeds than older telecommunication technologies. Through which the Internet of Things (IOT) and important communication missions can be accelerated in the future.

→ 5G technology can greatly increase the speed of the Internet. Which can achieve speeds of up to 20 (Gbps) and an average of 100 (Mbps).

→ It can facilitate network capacity and traffic capacity by a hundred times.

→ 5G technology can properly use every bit of the spectrum.

→ More speed can be brought in the use of real-time data, so that there is ease in accessing data.

→ 5G technology operates based on the millimeter wave spectrum (millimetre wave spectrum) (30-300 GHz). So that large files can be sent quickly.

→ MIMO (Multiple Input – Multiple Output) Center has been established at IIT Hyderabad, which provides scope for research for future 5G and 6G technology.

  • Benefits of 5G technology (useful in daily life)

→ Fast mobile network: 5G technology can change the mobile network. In which mobile network technology can develop a good experience in data and voice of the Internet.

→ Internet of Things: Through 5G technology, data of millions of machines can be processed quickly and machines can be easily connected to the Internet.

→ Smart City: 5G technology is widely used in traffic management, climate change, energy needs, local area broadcasting, water management, emergency response, etc. in smart cities.

→ Economic Development: 5G technology can bring about change in the agriculture, manufacturing and service sectors of the economy. Which can help in the economic development of India.

→ Logistics and Transportation: It can help in proper management of import-export, inter-transportation, goods and related data.

Good Governance: 5G technology can be used to deliver government services to the people faster, besides reducing corruption, red tape, etc.

Health and Insurance Sector: Good development can be achieved with 5G technology. Tele-medicine, digital health missions can gain momentum.

  • Challenges

5G technology may require a large investment. Due to which the speed of 5G technology may slow down.

Creating wide access to 5G technology in India is a big challenge. Ensuring its access in rural areas is a difficult task.

Concerns about damage to human health and the environment associated with 5G technology are also a challenge for its development.

Delay in taking appropriate measures. For example, delay in spectrum allocation hinders the development of 5G technology.

Thus, 5G technology can prove to be a game changer technology for the country. It has the potential to change every sector in the future, from education, health, agriculture, manufacturing, business, security, law. India has already started adopting 5G technology. Thus, in the future, 5G technology can be reached to every corner of India and will act as a guide for Digital India.
